Riverside Developmental Disabilities Miami County Ohio

Employment Training

Employment is a life goal for many adults, including adults with developmental disabilities. In Miami County, people with developmental disabilities can explore an infinite number of career opportunities. In keeping with the Employment First program of the Ohio Department of Developmental Disabilities, our main objective is to assist the people we serve with obtaining and keeping meaningful jobs in our community. We place a high level of importance on partnership with local businesses, to ensure that the work performed is meeting or exceeding their expectations.

We partner with state agencies and a variety of providers to create successful experiences for the individual, as well as the business. Job coaches from organizations like RT Industries or other local private agencies are in place to ensure that individuals have the training and support they need to meet their responsibilities.

We continuously work with local employers to grow employment options for the individuals we serve. With a growing network of employment partners, we are able to customize plans and find meaningful jobs that meet the needs and interests of each individual. We work with dozens of employers in Miami County who realize that hiring individuals with developmental disabilities is Good for Business!

“The RT Industries employees that we employ do more than show up – they give 100% all day, every day. We look to hire for the right attitude over the right skills. We can teach the skills, not the attitude.”
 - Cynamyn Williams, Harmony Systems and Service, Piqua

“One of the most important aspects of our relationship is the support from RT Industries. They’re committed to providing on-the-job training to the people we’ve hired, to make sure they do their jobs well.”
- Deb Oexmann, Brukner Nature Center, Troy
“The gentleman that we employ is always prompt. You can count on him to be here and be on time. He also has a great memory which is extremely helpful. In addition, he is genuinely proud to be a part of our business, and that is an attitude I would love to see spread throughout the company.”
 - Tonya Arbogast, ADCO Products, Inc., Tipp City

“What I like most about having them work here is their interaction with the community. Guests enjoy making sure they have a great experience in the workplace and seeing them learn skills to be successful.”
 - Nathan Liggett, Donatos Pizza, Troy

Overall, employees with disabilities have high retention rates and show up on time and ready to work.
