Riverside Developmental Disabilities Miami County Ohio

Riverside encourages self-advocates to actively learn and grow throughout the year. Many of our members have participated in programs such as:

Monthly Meetings—"Adventures in Advocacy" is a self-advocate group that currently meets once a month. We encourage personal growth by hosting inspirational speakers, state dignitaries and self-advocacy groups from other counties.

Information Sessions—Riverside encourages self-advocates to stay educated about their rights and choices by offering informational sessions on various subjects.

Project STIR—This four-day workshop sharpens self-advocacy skills and trains participants on teaching others to be better self-advocates. After the training, attendees become Ohio leaders and are encouraged to share what they learned with their peers.

Synergy Conference—OSDA (Ohio Self Determination Association) and PAR (Professionals, Advocates, Resources) come together to host this three-day self-advocacy conference in Columbus, Ohio, each October. Riverside is a member of OSDA and often sponsors many self-advocates to attend.

People First Conferences— This three-day conference encourages self-advocates to be involved by participating in a talent show and dance. Self-advocates also gain inspiration and knowledge of self–advocacy through guest speakers.
